A slim handheld slicer with four interchangeable stainless steel blades: thin slice at 1.5 mm, thick slice at 3 mm, julienne and grater. The whole tool is metal, it lies flat in a drawer at 2 cm thick, and a cut-resistant glove and cleaning brush are in the box.
What it's made of
Gramercy by Gütewerk. Stainless steel throughout, including the frame, the blade plates and the handle. No plastic body, which matters more than it sounds: plastic slicers crack at the frame, warp in a dishwasher and hold the smell of onion and garlic. Steel does none of that. The base carries a non-slip silicone strip so it grips the bowl rim or the board.
How it's used
Hold it over a bowl or a board and draw the vegetable down the plate. The angled blade shears rather than pushes, so it needs less force than a flat grater. To change blade, pull the tab up, lift the plate out and drop the next one in. That is the whole mechanism, and there is nothing to lose.
The four blades
Thin slice at 1.5 mm for cucumber, radish and crisps. Thick slice at 3 mm for potato and courgette. Julienne for carrot matchsticks and slaw. Grater for cheese, ginger and chocolate. In practice the grater and the thin slice do most of the work; the other two earn their place a few times a month.
Why we discuss safety before results
A flat slicer is as sharp as a full-size mandoline and offers less to hold on to. The cut-resistant glove is in the box as part of the product, not an upsell. Wear it on the hand holding the food, and keep wearing it while you clean, which is when most cuts happen.
Care
Dishwasher safe. The brush is included because grated cheese and starch lodge between the blade teeth and a cloth will not shift them. Rinse straight after use and the job takes seconds.
Not suitable for
Large batches, where a full-size mandoline with a food holder is faster and safer. Also very ripe soft fruit, cooked meat and anything frozen. This is a prep tool for a few vegetables at a time, not a production tool.

Frequently asked questions
What are the four blades?
Thin slice at 1.5 mm, thick slice at 3 mm, julienne and grater. They swap by pulling a tab and lifting the plate out.
How is this different from a full-size mandoline?
It is handheld and 2 cm thick, so it lives in a drawer and suits a few vegetables at a time. For volume prep the Mandoline PRO has a wider deck, a food holder and a stable frame.
Is it really all metal?
Yes, apart from the non-slip strip on the base and the glove and brush. No plastic frame to crack or hold odours.
Do I need the glove?
Yes. A flat slicer is as sharp as any mandoline with less to grip. Wear it on the food hand, and keep it on while cleaning.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes. Use the included brush first on grated cheese or starch, which lodges between the teeth.
What does it grate well?
Hard cheese, ginger, chocolate, nutmeg. For soft cheese it clogs, as any grater does.
How do I store the spare blades?
They stack flat with the slicer. Keep them together in a drawer rather than loose, since all four edges are exposed.
